Tāmaki Makaurau, 2025.
BRUSHED, TAINTED AND PAINTED PINE WOOD, CORRUGATED IRON, PHOTOGRAPHY.

In this collection of furniture and photographs, Jason Pocklington pays tribute to the city where he grew up — Auckland, New Zealand.

The city’s wooden houses, with their iconic horizontal lines — sometimes pristine, sometimes weathered by time — become the central motif of the series and form its visual framework.

Through this recurring element and the choice of materials, the artist explores Auckland’s cultural history: a dialogue between Polynesian roots and the influence of the British Arts and Crafts movement, where tradition and colonial heritage intersect and evolve.
